It's been a long time coming , but the genealogy on this website has been redesigned and finally gone LIVE.

The information on our website is the result of over 30 years of extensive, dedicated, and careful research. This website, being the culmination of countless conversations, research trips to U.S. Archives, and Italian Municipios, will enable you the reader to explore not only the ancestors through the generations back to as far as 1740, but the beautiful towns and villages from where they originated.

The MANTIONE family originates in the village of Montedoro within the Agrigento (AG) Province of the Region of Sicily, Italy. Founded during the first half of 1600 by the noble Aragona Tagliavia family, it was built on a small mountain over an area characterized by the production of sulfur, called Sicily's "oro" (gold). Thus the town was named "Montedoro" and it was the first Sicilian town to hold the world record for sulfur extraction and production. Afterwards, the town's dominion passed to the princes Pignatelli until 1812, when the feudal rights were dissolved across Italy. The MANTIONE surname is the most common of top ten surnames within Montedoro with 126 families. The IORIO (or YORIO, if anglicized) family originated in the small village of Castelmauro within the Campobasso (CB) Province of the Region of Molise Italy. Previously called "Castellucio Acquaborrana," the town had its origin in the Middle Ages on the slopes of Monte Mauro, amid thick woods of beech trees, along the left bank of the Biferno River. In the Middle Ages, this small center enjoyed a remakable importance, thanks to the powerful feudal families of the Cantelmo, D'Evoli and Mormile, who surrounded the town with high walls where only three doors of Castello, Lavaturo and Popolo opened.
